Joyce Manor have announced their seventh studio album, I Used To Go To This Bar, out Jan. 30 via Epitaph. The record sees lead singer Barry Johnson, guitarist Chase Knobbe, and bassist Matt Ebert continue to uncover depths within their concise, hook-filled songwriting — all after a period of revitalization within the band. “Once we toured again, it felt like there was a lot of excitement around our band,” Johnson explains, touching on their extensive touring schedule that included shows with Weezer.

In early 2023, Joyce Manor began working on the record alongside Epitaph founder and Bad Religion guitarist Brett Gurewitz, who produced the album with Johnson. “Working with Brett was amazing,” Johnson says. “When it comes to our musical DNA, he’s one of the architects of everything we grew up on. Having him guide our record helped us make something that we could put next to those classic records that shaped us.”

To accompany the announcement, Joyce Manor have released their new single, “Well, Whatever It Was.” “It has got to be one of the most Southern California-sounding songs ever recorded,” Johnson explains. “I hear Jane’s Addiction in the verses, Beach Boys/Weezer in the chorus, and RHCP in the outro. Everyone was just firing on all cylinders for this one. Joey Waronker’s drumming, TLA’s mix, and Lenny Castro’s percussion all just sent it to the end zone. This song would go insanely hard in a Shrek film.”

The video for “Well, Whatever It Was” sees the band in a spoof of The Great British Bake Off” called “The Great UK Rock Off,” where they, alongside Oasis, Kate Bush, Morrissey, and Robert Smith, are baking to win the competition.

Following the band’s fall shows, Joyce Manor will hit the road in the spring for a headline tour in support of I Used To Go To This Bar, featuring Militarie Gun, Teen Mortgage, and Combat.
