Naval Academy on Lockdown for ‘Active Threat’

One person was medically evacuated from U.S. Naval Academy on Thursday following a lockdown in response to threats made against the service academy.

The individual was injured as Naval Security Forces were clearing a building, according to a statement from a Naval Academy spokesperson.

“There is no active shooter threat, however one person was injured while Naval Security Forces were clearing a building,” reads the statement.

The person was medically evacuated, having been put on a Maryland State Trooper helicopter just before 7 p.m. in an area near Beach Hall on the academy, based on photos reviewed by USNI News. The individual is in stable condition, officials confirmed to USNI News.

Several sources familiar with the events on Thursday told USNI News that the injured person was a Naval Academy midshipman who was hurt while law enforcement was clearing Bancroft Hall.

The Naval Academy and Naval Support Activities Annapolis were put on lockdown at 5:07 p.m. as authorities responded to threats against the academy and reports of suspicious activity. Faculty, students and staff were urged to shelter in place.

The academy confirmed one person was injured and that there was no active threat at 9 p.m., around four hours after the lockdown began.

At 5:07 PM EST, Naval Support Activity Annapolis security, in coordination with local law enforcement, responded to reports of suspicious activity on the Naval Academy grounds. There is no active shooter threat, however one person was injured while Naval Security Forces were clearing a building. One person has been medevac’ed with injuries. They are in stable condition. We will provide updates as they become available.
